A forest trail opens unexpectedly onto the rugged Northern California coast, where towering trees give way to cliffs, rocks, and blue Pacific water.

This original 16 x 20 inch acrylic painting captures one of my favorite things about the California coast,the dramatic transition from deep, shadowed forest to an expansive ocean view. The winding trail leads through tall trees toward the shoreline, while layers of distant evergreens and headlands disappear into the hazy horizon.

Painted with expressive brushwork and rich greens, blues, earth tones and touches of violet, Out of the Woods is meant to capture the experience of stepping out of the forest and suddenly finding the Pacific in front of you.
